The Dora J. Beattie IBEA Scholarship was founded in 2011. The IBEA Scholarship Fund was one of the beneficiaries of Ms. Beattie’s estate. Ms. Beattie requested that the funds be utilized to provide scholarships for those who wanted to pursue a career in business education in Illinois.
Ms. Beattie received her bachelor of science in education from Illinois State University and a Certificate of Advanced Study from Northern Illinois University. She taught business at Antioch Community High School and retired from there before moving to Rochester.
She enjoyed traveling and had been to all 50 states, the 7 continents, and 87 countries. She was a member of the Illinois Business Education Association, National Business Education Association, International Society of Business Education, and Illinois Education Association.
Ms. Beattie is remembered as a wonderful woman and teacher who kept the class interesting. She was well respected by her students and colleagues. Ms. Beattie’s generosity will impact the future of business education in Illinois for generations to come.
