2005 IBEA Teacher of the Year Award Winner Janet Henry from EIBEA Affiliate

2005 Janet Henry from Lake Land College, EIBEA Affiliate Member IBEA Teacher of the Year Award Winner.

Janet has been the coordinator of and a teacher in the Office Technology Programs at Lake Land College in Mattoon since 1994. Prior to that, she taught business courses at Kaskaskia College.

Janet has served as Membership Committee Chair for IBEA and the treasurer for EIBEA. She has presented at IBEA and the Illinois Community College Board Conferences. In addition, she has given presentations within her community and served as a member of the Effingham Area Chamber of Commerce Scholarship Committee since 1998. She is also a charter member of Effingham Women Today, an organization established to promote professionalism, civic responsibility and scholarship for men and women. She has served as treasurer, secretary, and vice president of this organization.

Janet has many positive attributes that make her a most deserving candidate for this award. Perhaps her three strongest attributes include her: hardworking nature; leadership in business education; and dedication to students.

Hardworking Nature —Janet Henry is quite possibly the hardest working, most conscientious employee at Lake Land College. She gives 110% effort to her career and always maintains the highest professional and ethical standards. Her high quality Office Technology program is a shining example of her commitment to excellence, to Lake Land College, and to her students. She spends countless hours with Office Technology students, with marketing her program, and with critiquing and improving her program.

Leadership in Business Education —Janet is a true leader in Business Education. She has been actively involved in IBEA and EIBEA for many years. She has served in various leadership roles both in IBEA and EIBEA. In addition, Janet represents her career by giving countless presentations at local schools and organizations, colleges throughout the state of Illinois, IBEA, and the Illinois Community College Board. She is touted as an expert in the field of program assessment throughout the state of Illinois, and is called on repeatedly to explain her assessment process. Other college instructors repeatedly call her and ask her for advice; additionally, many instructors have visited her state-of-the-art Office Technology lab.

Dedication to Students —Janet is completely dedicated to her students and spends countless hours with them, always patient, kind, and professional. Her students respect her for so many different reasons—in particular, her knowledge, her willingness to go the extra mile to help them, and her commitment to her career. All of Janet’s Office Technology students participate in valuable internship programs, and Janet works hard to help place the students—both in internship and permanent positions—and visits the students several times during their internship experience. This is one more reason why her program is always up-to-date, as she is continually mingling with office professionals and learning about current industry trends and developments.
