At the 2019 IBEA Fall Conference, IBEA presented the Distinguished Service to Illinois Business Education Award to Dora J. Beattie and Gloria Bousley. These awards were presented posthumously to members of each lady's family.
Ms. Beattie earned her Bachelors of Science Degree in Education from Illinois State University and a Certificate of Advanced Study from Northern Illinois University. She taught Business at Antioch Community High School and retired from there before moving to Rochester.
Ms. Beattie was a member of IBEA, NBEA, the International Society of Business Education, and the Illinois Education Association.
Dora J. Beattie is recognized as the namesake of IBEA’s undergraduate scholarship, which was founded in 2011. IBEA was one of the beneficiaries of Ms. Beattie’s estate. Ms. Beattie requested that the funds be used for scholarships to help those who want to pursue careers in business education in Illinois.
Ms. Bousley received her Bachelor’s Degree at Evansville College and her Master’s and Doctorate degrees at Indiana University. She taught business courses at Bridgeport High School in Indiana before teaching at Olney Central College in Olney, Illinois. She ended her long teaching career in Illinois.
Another familiar name to IBEA members, a graduate scholarship was founded in 2014 in Ms. Bousley’s name.
Ms. Bousley requested that the funds IBEA received as a beneficiary of her estate be used to provide scholarships for those who want to pursue careers in business education in Illinois as well as for publications published and distributed by IBEA.
