At the 2019 IBEA Fall Conference, IBEA presented the Secondary Teacher of the Year Award to Jessie Ervin.
The 2019 IBEA Secondary Teacher of the Year is Ms. Jessie Ervin. She has been teaching business and computer classes in the Pawnee CUSD #11 - Pawnee Junior High/High School. Currently, she teaches 8th grade computers, Web Page Design I, Consumer Education, Computer Tech (Word, Excel, Access and PowerPoint), and Advanced Web Design. Previously she taught Office Procedures, Business Technology, Accounting, Marketing, Business Math and 7th-grade computers. Jessie not only teaches classes at the junior/senior high school levels, she also is a coach for junior high softball, a class sponsor, and the Web Master for the school’s website. As if that were not enough, she also teaches at Lincoln Land Community College.
Her District Superintendent believes that Jessie “is a leader amongst her colleagues. Whenever a new concept or idea is to be presented to the staff, she is the first teacher we seek out for input and to help train our staff.” The school Principal wrote that “In all of her endeavors, Jessie always demonstrates a positive attitude and the dedication necessary for success. . . . she has become one of the most respected teachers and well liked staff members.”
Jessie has been involved with IBEA for a number of years and serves on the Board of Directors. Jessie always makes an effort to attend IBEA-even when the conference falls around time that she may be needed for other teaching responsibilities. As an active MIBEA member, Jessie presented a session for one of the affiliate meetings.
Additionally, Jessie has provided fun and exciting lessons she shares with her students to improve their knowledge. One student wrote that “her classroom is filled with laughter and smiles daily. Students look up to her and see her as an individual they can trust. . . . Mrs. Ervin is what it means to be a great person and an excellent educator.” Another wrote that “everyone respects her. . . . Mrs. Ervin is a fantastic teacher and coach . . . she is no doubt an inspiration to everyone.”
